All EMTs can benefit from a structured routine. The key is to balance rest, work, and fun time. So why should EMT’s have a routine? Why is it important to stick to one, any ways?

We’ll tell you in this blogpost. Read on for more.

A routine guarantees that you get plenty of rest.

Not getting enough rest is one reason you’re feeling fatigued and tired on your shift. Having a set time to go to sleep keeps you from undersleeping. As an EMT you’ll have long days on your feet, you need at least 8 hours to recharge and prepare for the next work day.

A routine helps ensure you’re eating and fueling your body.

If you have set times when you have your meals, you’ll avoid skipping breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Not getting nutrients is a fast-track to crashing at work. An easy routine to follow is this;

Breakfast; eat first as you wake up

Lunch; noon time

Dinner; 6pm

Staying consistent with your meals is essential to get the energy you need to be an EMT. You’ll be in a better mood and have more energy to help out your patients and the staff.

A routine helps you avoid burnout.

Making time for fun and relaxation helps to destress and rest your body. Always being on work mode can really mess up your hormones and do more damage in the long-term. It’s not worth it!Listen to your body when you need a break or a moment to slow the pace. It’s ok to rest and recover.
