Hey folks! Amanda from EMS University here with some tips on workplace professionalism.

Emergency Medical Services is a vital profession that requires a high level of competence. It is important for EMS professionals to remember that their actions reflect on the entire profession, and that they should always strive to maintain a professional demeanor.

Here are some tips that the team at EMS University recommend to help you adhere to the highest levels of professionalism in EMS;

1. Keep your attire clean and crisp.

It’s important to dress professionally when working in EMS. This means wearing clean uniforms, closing buttons, and lacing up your boots.

2. Respect your colleagues.

Treat everyone you work with kindness and respect, regardless of their age, position, or rank. This includes treating patients with dignity, even when they are difficult or uncooperative. Always be courteous and police when interacting with others in the workplace.

3. Stay cool under pressure.

Working EMS can be stressful at times, but it’s important to remain calm under pressure and keep your emotions in check. Being able to stay calm will help you make better decisions and provide better care for your patients.

4. Stay up-to-date on training.

Staying up-to-date with training is essential for providing top quality care to patients in an emergency. Make sure you attend all required trainings and seminars related to your duties as an EMS professional.

5. Maintain patient confidentiality.

As an EMS professional, it’s important you maintain patient confidentiality at all times. This means not discussing any information about patients outside of work, even if it’s just casual conversation. You should also be aware of HIPAA regulations when dealing with patient information.
